因为Elio Caccavale是圣马丁教师的关系，我曾在伦敦见过他，又看到过一个标题为"Don't Panic"的展览，那里也有他的作品，后来我旅行到马德里时，一个意大利设计展中见到了他做的玩偶。听他讲述过自己的研究，网上查到的资料说，他的设计应该是算作critical design。他的研究过程令人印象深刻，看了结果却稍有意外，尤其是其中一个项目关于生物技术中异种移植的：一位美国年轻人做了肝移植手术，肝源是转基因的猪的肝脏，这则新闻引起了他的注意，从而开始了探讨医学和生物技术的进步带来的一连串的社会和伦理学的问题，以及设计师如何介入设计跟动物相关的产品，重新看待人和动物的关系。

Ben说Elio的作品不是艺术品，因为有非常清楚的Briefing，那时我是颇不以为然，有没有Briefing和是不是艺术品又有什么关系，即便有Briefing，难道就一定是产品设计？我嘴上坚持说是艺术品，其实心里想的是，如果这个结果是产品设计的话，和我们通常意义上的设计确有比较多的不同，至少给我自己的感觉是怪怪的。

直到最近查了更多的资料，开始慢慢接受critical design的概念，但网上中文的译法很怪，有的翻译为“关键设计”，有的叫“思维设计”，究竟哪一种更妥贴呢？

绿树环抱中的RCA并不起眼也不高大。

因为是150周年庆，所以今年的DegreeShow规模比较大，分两处展区，这是在海德公园的展览棚。

Now the students from MAID and Textile Futures in CSM are busy working on the project called Epigenetic. In CSM, the two specialities, Narrative Environment and Textile Future are fresh to us, the former focuses on the creation of the narrative environment, transforming a story into a totally new space; the later on the latest development of science and technology and how the technology could affect different kinds of materials.The students of these three directions have quite a few chances to work in group. 第一次听这个词是从RCA的同学Henny口中说出，和他交谈时他正在研究怎么用光导纤维设计灯具，最终的结果是他利用这种材料做了一组装置，在WORK IN PROGRESS show中吸引了不少参观者。他做的另一个项目也是装置，利用从EBAY买来的配件组装起来，通过这个设备他听命于任何人的摆布，由此演示控制者和被控制者的状态。他说我们生活的世界太缺乏想象力，他要做的就是通过设计活动去激发人们的想象力。

如果说他的作品还只是停留在艺术活动中，另外一群学生的工作则早已开始尝试与商业结合，他们与伦敦的The Great Eastern Hotel合作，project的名称为Sleepless，‘Hotels have doors and corridors, lobbies and restaurants in which many peoples stories unfold, and fuse into shared experiences daily and nightly.’学生们成了讲故事的人，他们甚至将故事写出、编辑，通过这些故事产生新的idea，去创造独特的旅馆生活体验。
